My real estate career began in New York over 8 years ago when I worked in nonprofit management for various housing development organizations in low-income communities as both Fiscal Officer and Director of Operations where I oversaw the fiscal components of the various programs for nonprofits including budgeting, audits, cash reserve accounts and asset management. While I loved working in community development, working on the ground watching communities grow and develop, I knew I wanted to continue to grow my own expertise so that I was able to contribute something larger, something more sustainable.
I continued to educate myself, at Columbia University Business school I worked with other colleagues in the field of housing development to find new methods of housing low-income communities-lessons which I took back to the poorest neighborhoods in New York in Bedford Styvesant and Bushwick. Through this on the personal side, my passion for real estate grew, as I purchased my own home in the city and began to work actively on the board on various capacities. Additionally, I saw a hole in the market for small and personalized property management shops that specialized in board approval processes, and so at 26 years old, I created a company that did just that growing to managing over 20 units across the city within a year.
After working in the nonprofit industry for almost a decade, I made the decision to enhance my financial and real estate experience by moving to the profit sector, working for an entrepreneur and commercial real estate developer in the Times Square area. This individual who has a net worth of over 1.5 billion, guided me through the commercial real estate industry while working for him as his Director of Operations. I handled his private accounts and worked with him on a boutique hotel development deal in Times Square which included meeting with the developer and giving input into development and design details.
After working with him for about 2 years, I left New York for San Francisco to take a break from working full-time and have another child, Gracie(1 year old), in addition to raising my 5 year old daughter Indigo and am currently falling in love with San Francisco one sunny/foggy day at a time and am quickly understanding the phrase, "bring a jacket-just in case".
So, that is where I am now, very eager to continue my career in real estate which began 9 years ago. I bring a great deal to MyTeamSF, including my background in development and new construction, board associations and guidelines, first time home ownership and most importantly, understanding what a client needs from a personal and intimate level. I am eager to guide new homeowners through this same process, one gentle step at a time.
